Does anyone remember the days of MapQuest? When you wanted to drive to a new destination, you had to make sure to look up and print out (yes, print out!) the directions to follow to get there. Step by step, you’d let that printed guide get you to where you wanted to go. There was no built-in navigation system, no Siri to ask for help, and no Apple Maps to pull up on your phone and re-route you. It was just you, the open road, and your stacks of printed papers to guide you. While it sounds archaic (because, at this point, it is!), can you imagine the alternative? Just hitting the road with no clue how to get to the destination in mind?
That’s probably how Abraham felt when God called him into the unknown. To leave his homeland, to trust that what God promised when he did would come to fruition, to step out in faith with no idea what was ahead. If you’re thinking, I don’t know if I could do that, you’re not alone! But it’s our moments of uncertainty—the moments when our path feels incredibly cloudy and unclear—that faith is even more important. Walking by faith is what helps us walk into uncertainty. It worked for Abraham, and it can work for you too. What feels unknown or uncertain to you in life right now? Ask God to help you walk forward in faith in that area of your life and to trust Him step by step.
Hebrews 11:8-11 NIV
[8] By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. [9] By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. [10] For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. [11] And by faith even Sarah, who was past childbearing age, was enabled to bear children because she considered him faithful who had made the promise. https://bible.com/bible/111/heb.11.8-11.NIV
